Yamaha TransAcoustic for 2018 (FG-TA vs FS-TA)

Well, they're not horrible or anything.  And with that little bit of effects built in, might be nice.  Problem is, they keep saying "for the price point" but never tell you how much it costs.   If it's a 400 dollar guitar, then I'd say, ya, I might grab something like that.  But, if it's more than that, I'd pass.  I'd rather have a quality guitar with quality pedals if I'm going for that kind of stuff, especially on stage.

That would be the problem I would guess; is using it live.  With pedals, for each song, or even in parts of songs, you can easily turn on/off the pedal with your foot.   With this guitar, I don't know how easy that would be.

Maybe if you're just playing guitar it wouldn't be so bad, but if you're the front man, strumming and singing through the whole song, I don't see how turning the effects on and off would be very easy or non-distracting.

On the flip side, for recording, this would be cheaper and might be more convenient.

I notice that at the beginning of the video, and especially right around the 1:00 mark, the guitar is badly distorted, coming through a set of good Klipsch speakers connected to my computer. Don't know if the guitar's effects were being overdriven, or if the recording itself was too 'hot,' but it sounded horrible. I also notice that whenever the demonstrator turned on the effects, he immediately started stumming less aggressively. I suspect that this system doesn't work well when being played hard, either with a flat pick or fingerpicked.

There was also a definite lag between turning on the system and hearing the effect, and you have to stop playing the guitar to make any changes.  As TonyKgull pointed out, with a stompbox effect the change is immediate, and you don't have to stop playing. For live playing, the guitar would be pretty useless, in my opinion, and I don't need to hear reverb and chorus for my couch playing.
