For the sake of brevity, I'll be as succinct as possible about the news and talk radio- what I'm about to say has to be considered political since that's the news that typically depresses- it has to be about talk radio which is what gave me the inspiration in the form of an epiphany, if you will, though not a religious experience- I do practice the conclusion I arrived at religiously-
I too drove an over the road big truck- that offers lots of time for thinking and I enjoy it- thinking that is-
anyway, I was at a truck stop in Utah and heard a caller ask a talk show host (for the umpteenth time and with various hosts)- "what can we do"? I got to thinking about that- I came to the conclusion that's the wrong question- the question is; what can "I" do? Asking another what to do gives an excuse to cop out with the excuse, he said- this was early oughts time wise
Me, being an advocate for Individual rights of course I aligned "I" with Individual and Independent since the first letter is "I". "I" decided that my past didn't include a lot about my family's political beliefs that I had heard. Albeit I had a somewhat unusual early childhood, but, none the less I had only a vague recollection of family political history to trace my, seemingly inherent, advocacy for the Individual- I decided that sowing seeds of Liberty is what "I" could do- and I do at every opportunity- but, I also determined my kids and their kids would have a source for tracing their political DNA, if you will, only IF I left the traces behind in words- so, what I decided to do, in 2010, just prior to retiring was to write a book- not for publication so much as for family and close friend distribution to give my account of what would be History to my descendants- my avatar is also the cover page and title of the book- and I did leave my opinions in writing- 175 pages worth (fewer if my succinct life story is counted which I felt was important to offer an I'm not special perspective-
Since that time when I decided what "I" could do and accepting/learning that Truth is constant and knowledge evolves I live; all men are created equal and have certain unalienable rights- it was true yesterday, it is true today, and will be true tomorrow- everything else is merely knowledge and it will evolve- I believe accepting that outlook made me a better person- it also gave me a shield of sorts to ward off the idiots in the news- they are the second most biased source of information on the planet- I take everything I see in the news with a grain of salt realizing it's likely the exact opposite of what they claim- ALL of them- accepting that outlook also explains my political leaning- which is ram rod straight libertarian- not L but l- NO Party association (for myriad reasons)
All that said- I am an active political message board poster- it saddens me when I see so much partisan ignorance- my descendants, will, at least, maybe find some refuge in my book of opinions about where we are (at that point in time, sometime late 2009 IMS when I finished it-
I sleep well- have only one regret in life and that is that I'm not a better story teller-
