Garland, Well, let's hope it just needs a truss rod adjustment. Anything else will definitely be a pain to get fixed.

Can you play the individual notes on the 2 strings and I.D. exactly at what point (for example, not on the lower frets, but starts buzzing on the 6th or something like that) the buzzing or rattling starts? Or is the buzzing/rattling on all the frets?

Sorry, just for clarity so I understand, you're saying they only buzz on frets 5 through 8 (or 9)?

If it is only buzzing on the middle frets, this could indicate the neck has somehow developed a back bow. This usually happens when the guitar is over humidified, but could happen for other reasons too I guess. Never had it happen to me so not sure there.

Another possibility, this would be weird though, is that the middle of those frets have popped up a little. Or even just the middle of one fret, and the closer you get to it, the more the buzz. Again, that would be weird, but I guess it could happen.

If you have a long straight edge, I would use that to check the frets so you can assess exactly what the situation is with them. That will help determine what actually needs to be done.

IMS - If Memory Serves.... I say that because I haven't messed with it since Thursday evenin when I did check where and how many frets the unwanted sound was comin from... I suspect it needs some relief in the neck since the RH in my apt has gone up and stayed, from 39-40 up to 49 and 50%.... but, it is a head stock accessed truss rod which is a real pain when you're frustrated and disappointed... I appreciate the tips and will use them when I find an around to it...

Garland, Regarding the truss rod cover, ya, it's a pain. I've known a few guitarists that actually left the cover off. But only a few, that for whatever reasons, needed access to it a bit more often than the average bear. It's actually quite easy to access the truss rod with the strings on, as long as the cover is off. On most guitars at least.

Yes, I have removed the cover... adjusted the truss rod... and put the cover back on, prior to this episode when I was feelin a bit frisky... the finish under the cover ain't pretty

I got the Gibson back out for Sunday duty yesterday. It was/is in need of some water.
The sponges in the case where bone dry, I had just soaked them down last week.
We had a pretty good dry spell for nearly two weeks. That's all over now, getting 2in or more today...

I don't get any buss with the Hummingbird, but it gets notably "tinny" when too dry.
I would start there before I hit the truss rod.

This blew me away. My 3 Alvarez guitars actually sound amazing the more they dry out. Their resonance kind of goes off the charts. So much so that I have to be careful because I let them dry out and try to keep a balance between too dry and too much humidification. Because the sound is so good when dry, I have to make sure I keep track of things and not let that get out of hand. lol.

I had assumed this might be the same with all acoustics, but now I see it's not.

That's great news.
Just remember when adjusting the truss rod, it's not allways instantaneous, adjust a little at a time, it can take a day or two to finally settle down.
