Can't stop thinking about these guys!

Derick, I like the darker tone of mahogany. I have an 000 in mahogany. I want a dread because it will sound different... bigger, fuller, etc. I have 000 in spruce, the Orangewood. It's fine, for what it is.
I have the Guild D240E, spruce, fine for what it is. The DS240 and AMI J... fine for what they are...

The larger body should have a fuller sound.

I'm pretty sure you are right, how much fuller is the unknown, in a perfect world the right answer is as you have already said, take your guitar with you to the music store and do a comparison.
Any one at open mic that you can do a comparison with, just a thought.

These guys demo lots of guitars and probably have quality mics, amps, etc. The sound may vary once leaving the studio.
They both sound good.

Derick, yes, I have compared the 2 you referred to... the clone is definitely different... in that it has deeper sound.

ancient1, blues90, unfortunately, videos are all we have to go by... and being plugged in does make a difference. It hinges on how the mixer mixes, which is adjustable, but, I don't get to adjust it. I only get to tell John more or less on vocal or guitar volume, bass, mid-range or treble and if I think of it, reverb on voice or guitar... that's a part of the frustrating part of why I think I sound like crap... but too, each guitar and player favors something more or less and even cheap (inexpensive) guitars sound pretty dadgum good... yet they seldom ask for anything other than more or less volume on guitar or vocal... and, my voice is pretty deep so a deeper sound enhances and helps keep me on pitch (mostly) ... but listening to the PA I have a really hard time with pitch variation... others don't complain, so I don't... I do question though...

As for the preference... I like the sound of the mahogany since it is more mellow, and, dare I say, smooth... at least the way I play.

 Strange,  they do have the Crossroads Dreadnought,  but it has a cutaway,  not the best guitar in the world but for £145 it's a belta, it would have the same tone (or very similar to) to the two expensive guitars you may be thinking of getting so you could have checked out if this is the sound you are looking for.
  But suppose you have the option of returning the expensive guitars if not to your liking.
 It just seems a lot of money for very little extra to what you have already got, but your money , your choice.
