9 days ago I saw an ad on Letgo for what looked to be a Seagull guitar with a Martin style headstock. The ad said "Negotiable" so I offered $50. She replied it is a Menestrel, serial number 10065 and said she'd take $80. We went back and forth every few days. She said she had other offers.
I asked her today if it was still available. She said yes and asked for $60. I said OK. We finally met in a market parking lot. She said a few hours ago that it was in her car. It was in the 40's today. That made me cringe.
When I finally saw it the first thing I noticed is the top is caved in. Low temp/humidity?? I've seen a couple of very dry solid top guitars that looked like this. They responded very nicely to internal rehumidification. I'm not so sure it will work on a plywood guitar. Who knows how long it has been like this??!!
If I'm unable to get the top to come back up, the neck will probably go into another Yamagull!!
The first thing I noticed was a missing bridge pin.
Then I noticed 4 of them have electrical tape wrapped around them!
Then I noticed the missing one is actually broken off in the hole!!
The top is caved in 1/4"!!!!
Sunken behind the bridge too!
Cracked lower brace.
Separated top braces.
The usual Seagull neck bolts AND (2) socket head cap screws?? Can't wait to take those out!!!
The concavity is slightly less than 3/16" without string tension.
Light, saturated sponges in open bags, and thermo/hygrometer inside.
Hole partially covered to hold in most of the humidity.
Sitting in the rack.
Broken bridge pins???
Like I said earlier, if the attempt to rehumidify fails, the neck will probably go into another YamaGull (70's Yamaha FG/80's Seagull morph).
DAMN!!!! I turned around to look at it and I can see part of the top is separated!!! I'm going to give this 3 days. If I don't see a major improvement I'm pulling the plug. Literally!!! It has a bolt on 1.80" nut Seagull neck, that's all I need.
