Derick, Ah, I think I see what's going on here. I'm misunderstanding you maybe? I think we're talking about a "set-up", specifically regarding Taylors at least. The way the neck is designed on a Taylor, they actually never need or can even have what would commonly be refereed to as a neck reset. They are bolted on and adjusted with hardwood shims. So, where other guitars would need a full neck reset, (with a fairly huge cost attached to it, if it could even be done) a Taylor just requires an adjustment that is almost as easy as doing a simple set up.
As a matter of fact, my Taylor guy told me that if the neck actually needed adjusting during the free set up you get when you buy one, it is done for free during the setup cuz that's how easy and cheap it is to do.
So ya, I can easily see setups being a common issue because everybody is different and has unique preferences. But an actual "neck reset" being needed on a new Taylor, I've still never heard of yet.
And ya, I hear you on the dots or no dots on the fretboard, that's the way my Alvarez is. I've actually had dots made for my Alvarez and I'm going to put them on because I need easy-to-scan-in-a-micro-second markers on my fret board if I'm going to be doing ANY sort of lead work on stage. That 12th fret marker on the Crafter covers 3 frets and I know it would mess me up on stage. LOL. I'm simply not good enough playing up there without clear and absolute markers.
My Alvarez has the opposite issue, nothing up there for my eyes to catch, which is also giving me problems when needing to jump up to anything around the 7th fret or higher. So, ya, gotta get me some dots applied soon.
