"Vintage" vs new ... which would you prefer?

My Maritime had to go for a neck reset when the action started to magically rise on its own and it was a major operation with the bird away for many weeks.

That's actually one of the reasons I would like to have a Taylor.  Would be nice to know the neck is an easy fix if ever needed.  However, I have not yet found a Taylor that spoke to me enough to warrant the price being asked.  You never know though.  I still pick them up and try them.

My flat top guitars all have a few miles on 'em. One of these is a Goya M-26, made by the Levin Company in Sweden in 1958.Like the Taylor guitars, these had bolt on necks, with two bolts. When I took the guitar to my luthier for a neck set, he gave me an estimate close half of what I paid for the guitar.  When I came to collect the guitar, he said, "You didn't tell me that was a bolt on neck.  That was sure an easy neck set."  He charged me half of the estimate.

While I don't have any really old flat top guitars; the oldest is a 1950 Gibson LG1and the newest is a '62 Martin D-21, I'll admit to being drawn to older guitars when I go to a music shop.

My mandolins are newer; from the eighties and nineties and one from the early 2000s.

My banjos are all several decades old, but my Gretsch arch top guitar is less than a decade.

I must admit that the guitar that I play when I have a break from lessons at the music store where I teach is a current D-18.  These are sweet.
