When buying a guitar, do you ever consider the resale value

The first thing I do is to sight the neck from the body end. Get your eye level with the strings where they bend over the saddle. First check the right hand side and look for any bow in the neck. Lets say there is a bow you can see, so check the left side and check if the bow is roughly the same. If its not then the neck has a twist in it. Don't buy it. If the bow is about equal both sides then you have to decide would the truss rod cure it (bearing in mind there has to be a very slight bow from the first fret to the twelfth fret that's the necessary relief you need. Assuming the neck is OK I then check the frets just to see if there's any considerable wear, also the fingerboard itself to see if it has grooves behind the frets worn by a lot of playing, but as long as the frets are not worn grooves in them then check if there's enough meat on them to take a leveling with a stone or if the top of the fret is flat then it means someone has had a go at leveling the frets. I have a proper fret file that I use to crown the frets (get them back rounded at the top.) These fret files are available on e-bay. Some guys use a 3 cornered file and gradually round off the top but you could start marking the fingerboard. One main thing before filing any frets at all you'd best mask up your fingerboard between the frets. I use the blue decorators masking tape and put two thicknesses on just to make sure. If you look on You Tube there are plenty of videos that show how to do these things. I do all my own repairs and set-ups but I wont do re-frets or resetting a neck on an acoustic Guitar.
