I haven't won anything, and I buy a lottery ticket every week. 😥
I've always said, "You can't lose if you don't play!".
I played the PowerBall lottery ONCE! Put down $10, had a $100 winner! Made $90!!! They'll NEVER get another dime from me!!!!!!!!!!!
BUT!! By paying for a lottery ticket, you have paid for the right to possibly WIN the big prize, or any prize offered. It's kind of the same thing as winning an auction, except you already know what you've won, and there's a certain amount of risk, not know what you've really won until you get it. I got slightly burned on the 2 bass auctions that I WON.
When Lotto 649 first came out in Ontario, it was probably the first Cannuck Lotto with a prize in the millions. There is a CBC radio show called Quirks & Quarks that had a statistician as a guest the first week of the Lotto. He told the host his reasons for not buying a ticket. He said, "The chances of my wife and I both dying before the drawing are far greater than those of us winning the lottery." For this reason, I have never bought a 649 lottery ticket. I will admit that when the staff where I worked chipped in to buy a few tickets, I chipped in as well. I couldn't bear the thought of them winning and retiring and me having to break in a whole new staff.

phjim, I've been playing Lottario ever since it first came out. I won 140 bucks on the very first ticket I bought! (At age 11, that was like winning a million bucks! ha ha!). It's got the lowest grand prizes, but it's also super cheap and has way better odds than 6/49 and especially Lotta Max.
I've tried to keep track over the years, don't have the "exact" numbers but as far as I can figure, I'm pretty much breaking even. That's because I've sort of "won big" more than a few times. Won anywhere between 5 and 120 bucks tons of times, won 600 bucks a couple of years ago and one time, on the day that my car broke down and I was wondering how I was gonna fix it (cuz at that particular time I was kinda broke) I won $3,400.00. That was on a 1 dollar quick pick. LOL.
Not bad for a lottery that only costs 50 cents a ticket. I never spend much. Anywhere from a buck to a few bucks, but that particular lottery has been pretty kind to me.
The odds are still better that I'd be struck by lightning than me winning the jackpot, make no mistake, I'm not kidding myself, but hey.....you can't win if you don't buy a ticket.
