1971 Yamaha FG-230 Conversion to the YamaXL

I'm really liking this guitar now. It sounds like a vintage Yamaha, although it didn't when I initially finished it. And I like the very wide string spacings. I have big hands and the baseball bat neck isn't a problem.

BUT!! Since I came up with this idea, I've wanted to make a smaller body version. Along with all the other guitar projects I have, the plan is to take a classical size 1975 FG-75-1 and mate it will another 12 string FG-230 neck. BUT, this time I will thin the neck slightly to the thickness of a normal vintage FG, but make the width about 1.80", with a nut string spacing of 1.50", very much like the old Seagull dimensions. The big question is what to make the saddle string spacing. I could modify one of the bridges I made for the YamaXL, with the 2.37" string spacing, or make a new one at 2.25" or 2.31". The FG-75-1 bridge area is smaller, so it might be best to start from scratch, but the string spacing is a big question. I'll have to do a layout.

I took the neck off of the donor 1968 FG-230 nearly 2 years ago. A long length of lacquer is missing on the bass side of the fretboard, and it was a brutal neck removal and the heel lamination separated, I reglued & pinned it. It's the perfect candidate to sand all the finish off and thin it. The FG-75-1 will need to be taken apart.
