Since reinstalling the strings on 9/27 I've just let it sit, retuning it every couple of days. 3 days ago I installed a black dot over the bridge doctor screw, it looks much better than the pearl dot the JLD bridge doctor supplies. But tonight I wanted to check the "progress" of how the guitar is reacting to the new neck position under full strings tension for the past 1.5 weeks.
My observations:
The action is a little over 5/64" low C & 5/64" high E (strings pressed at the 1st fret). The neck relief (strings pressed at the 1st & 14th frets) is good to very low. The neck projects .06" at the low C & high E. 2nd, 3rd & 4th strings buzz when pressed at the 13th fret. Straight edge hits on the 1st & 14th frets with the largest gap at the 4th/5th frets, .012" low C & .009 high E. Looking at the neck curvature I think I can backbow the neck slightly which will lower the action, but I don't know what that will do to the 14th fret buzzing.
The strings on the guitar are: .033/.055 E, .023/.046 A, .016/.040 D, .008/.030 G, .016/.016 B, .013/.013E. The Elixir strings are .027/.047 E, .018/.039 A, .012/.030 D, .009/.023 G, .014/.014 B, .010/.010 E. Since the old strings are much heavier there's no sense doing anything else with the setup. The new strings must be installed.
Personally, I think the action is a bit high, but since the old strings are much heavier than the Elixir's the observations are irrelevant. The only option is to install the new strings and start over. There is certainly going to be less string tension and less neck curvature. I'll hopefully change the strings tomorrow.
In other news, IT SOUNDS GREAT!! Rings like a bell, resonates forever! And that's with OLD strings!! It should be even better with new strings, although I assume there will be some loss of low end.
