Last night I crowned and polished the frets thru the 15th. I had replaced the first 5, found the typical 14th & 15th frets were high, and then found a few other frets were high. So I ended up having to slightly level them all and recrown them since most of them were flat. Because the existing frets had possibly been leveled before (.035" to .025" high) I couldn't use my crowning file, I had to use the triangular file. Then LOTS of sanding with 600 grit to take out the leveling sanding marks. In the end, they look pretty good. A few file marks on the sides, but with the tape on the fretboard there isn't much room to get sandpaper in there. I lightly cleaned the fretboard with Naptha and 0000 steel wool to remove the "stuff" fretboard accumulate over decades, but the finish wear is still there. I'll oil it after the final setup.
I also glued shims to the neck dovetail and sanded them to fit. The neck is ready to go back on!! But it was 9:30pm, a little late to start that. Maybe tonight.
