The guitar I'm asking about is the Dean Daytona 6-string acoustic I bought new back in 2003. To the best of my knowledge, it's solid spruce over laminate mahogany.
A couple of years ago, I noticed that it was getting bellied behind the bridge. I took it to an LGS, and they sanded the bridge down to expose more of the saddle. In case you don't know, Dean acoustic bridges are shaped alot like the ones I've seen on Kona acoustics, and nether of us were able to remove the saddle from the bridge.
I still wasn't satisfied and installed a Bridge Doctor. That helped some, but it looks like the saddle is too short and the break angle on the high E string is quite shallow.
Would this guitar be a candidate for a bridge replacement? I know conventionally shaped bridges with drop-in saddles are available. I have a sentimental attachment to the guitar because it was my first, and don't want to ruin it. I also know that this would require some sanding, special tools, patience etc... I also know the git's appearance would be a little rough after it was done, but it could give it a new lease on life.
Any thoughts?
Edit: I took the strings off it to get a closer look at the bridge and saddle, and was able to pull the saddle out of the bridge with very little effort. Not sure why this never worked before. It's pretty short, though. Looks like a good first step would be finding a compensated saddle that's around 2 13/16" long.
