Well done Robert its starting to look good, and thanks for the photos, my only criticism is before you have finished the project you may need a larger malet. Let us all know what it sounds like, and whatever you do don't go and brake one of those 50 year old strings, or end of project.
Derick, Well, I left it hanging over night, and found it completely out of tune in the morning, most especially the treble strings. It s toss up between string age and a poor string installation as the cause. I have forgotten the special needs of slot heads restringing. I re-tuned 2 hours ago and am about to try. ---- 3rd string out badly, rest of trebles bad. I'm goin to unwind and rewind them to make sure the strings aren't slipping on posts. That 3rd is slipping for sure.
As far as the tone itself, it is nice. Gentle. tried playing a -so-called classical pieces i composed in the 70's. I posted an mp3 of it at one time called Christina Perimendo. I liked the sound, brought me back 50 years or so
Robert after all that work try another cheap set of strings. But just to refresh your memory, you may need to play and constantly retune classical guitar strings for a week or more before they settle in. Not recommending this but a lot of people overtune to make them settle in quicker. This is one of the main reasons I don't play the classical guitar very often. Anyway you achieved what you set out to do, well done.
Man RobertW , It was great hearing those old songs from the sixties again. I still do Don't Think Twice on occasion, but I haven't done Changes for decades until tonight. I think I'll revive it thanks to you.
Do you remember the old Levin/Goya folk guitars that were made to accept either nylon or steel strings? They had slot heads and wide nuts with 12 fret necks, but they had position markers on the board and pin bridges and for a while had double white pick guards.
Oscar Brand, Ed McCurdy and Theodore Bikel played them. So did Julie Andrews in The Sound Of Music.
