First I would like to thank Tonykgull, for all his advice and recommendations on the Alverez Guitars.
It started by looking on the Internet at a Guitar superstore in Birmingham, called Guitar Guitar , never been to this guitar store it's only 40 miles away, but to me to get there is the drive from hell.
Anyway what caught my eye was they have some Alverez Guitars on special offer, so off we went.
On arriving their, and yes it was the drive from hell, plus it rained from the moment I got in to the car untill I arrived their.
Wow on going through the doors I was met with wall to wall guitars, never seen anything like it, I was like a kid in the candy store.
Anyway asked a young assistant for help (he wasn't really that young, but at my age everyone looks young), I asked to look at the Alverez Acoustic Guitars, I asked to look at a Spruce top, Grand Auditorium size, with arm rest. He passed me the guitar, and a very nice looking guitar it was, sat down and had a little play, nice tone, easy to play, no complaints, then I spotted a Alverez Folk guitar with Mahogany top back and Gloss finish With cutout, beautiful looking guitar , again Nice tone. I kept swapping from one to the other . The assistant said take your time, and just give me a call if I can help.
After about 20 minutes, I thought I will just have a quick walk around and look at some expensive guitars, went into the Taylor room, never seen so many Taylor Guitars, they all looked like works of art, beautiful, I didn't try any, I could only afford to look, pity.
Then into the Martin room, again never seen so many Martin Guitars, every one a beauty, but so expensive, £3,000 £5,000 £7,000 then I stopped looking at the price's.
Was just about to leave the Martin Room, when I saw about six Sigma Guitars, that were more in my price range.
Maybe I should not have done the next thing, but never played a Sigma Guitar, so picked up this sort of Folk size Sigma guitar, with Spruce top, Mahogany back and sides, with bone nut and saddle, 1 3\4 inch nut width and had a little play, then out of the blue totally unexpected, the most beautiful tone I had heard from a guitar for a good while.
I went and found the assistant again, and asked for his help, I told him I had a problem, that I liked all three guitars,
He was very helpful, and got all three guitars and we sat down, he passed the guitars to me one at a time, I didn't tell him but the Sigma Guitar was my favourite, so I asked him if he would play all three of them while I stud in front of him To get a better point of view of the sound. Again I preferred the sound of the sigma, but didn't tell him which one I preferred.
Next I asked the assistant, which guitar he liked the best, (it didn't really matter to me which one he preferred, as he was more than likely going to pick the most expensive one anyway) then he said I'm going to tell you the truth, and chose the Sigma, (the Sigma was the least expensive of all three guitars).
What the assistant did next surprised me, no it wasn't that, he got the equivalent of the Sigma but a Martin Guitar, and asked me if I could tell the difference, I'd sound silly if said I couldn't tell the difference wouldn't I.
The Martin cost over ten times the price of the Sigma.
Then I told the assistant I would buy the Sigma Guitar, he then said to me, I will tell you now, that if you hadn't bought that guitar he would have bought it for himself, he stated that they obviously get thought a lot of guitars of the same model and make, and there is quite a difference in sound/tone between the guitars, and the one that I had got was exceptionally good.
Maybe an Alverez next time, if it wasn't for the money, I would have bought all three.
