blues90 , I'll turn 73 in December so I get where you're coming from and I weigh 146-47 on a good day. I used to be 5' 8"- I'm 5' 61/2" now-
I'm fortunate that I live in a rent controlled (55+) small apt complex and my two sons are not very far away, 45 min at most for the youngest, 15 at most for the oldest- and I have a small pension- when I was younger, foot loose and fancy free, I moved several times with everything I owned in a Chiquita Banana box- if it didn't fit, it didn't go.
I have acquaintances my age who have way more stuff than me and I feel bad for their kids- they're the ones that have to deal with stuff we liked and kept. I have a few things they will want, everything else will go to Goodwill (or a similar charity)-
Drop by here and talk any time buddy! Hope our gibberish makes the day a little better.
I am still close to 5' 11". The building we live in is rent controlled yet it's only 10 units , each has a front and back door. We have lived here since 1981 first down stairs in one of the smaller 4 back units which at some point were added on . Then in 1992 we moved upstairs on the opposite side of this very old building. Our first apt when we moved here in 1981 was real old yet larger and had tall ceilings we lived up stairs and had an entrance off the long hallway into the kitchen which still had the old ice boxes and the living room which had a entry way that had stone tiles. The owner sold it and of course raised the rent double so we moved here. That building was destroyed in the 1994 earth quake , took many years before another building was put in place. That was a real old building. This one is pretty old as well.
Since we moved here everything, bit by bit was changed and torn down to make way for these taller horrid new apt buildings. And they continue to proceed this act. I walk or drive and cannot even remember what used to be where. All the Ford dealerships I worked at are all gone , one the oldest used to be for building air planes , had an old wood and glass phone operator three seat booth in the showroom . Bell came in and carefully took it apart to save it. It did work. All the lockers were army green and it had a real tall domed roof . The main building still exists , it's used for the children's hospital parking. This first one I worked at used to be a dairy. .
I'm not from Calif, I'm from Illinois , My wife is from Calif. Met in southern FL she moved in with her parents and I was installing cable TV , there house was on my list and I almost didn't do the job because it was late and had 4 rooms with TV's and then we had to climb the pole and run everything . I decided to do it. It was her who wanted to move here. It was great in the early 80's . Now so great as time marched on.
