A person should have at least one each.
Electrics can deliver volume and many, many different sounds. I find they are much silkier, that is, easier to play. The Gretsch's action is extremely low, 10 guage strings and a great neck..it almost plays itself.
Two issues with electric is a good amp is useful to really appreciate the spectrum of sounds. Probably the biggest drawback is they need to be plugged in. Can't just grab it and start playing.
Only played mine once in the past 5 months but I'm glad I have it.
Everyone has their own preferences but I prefer the hollow body 'cause it doesn't slide out of my lap. They fit more like an acoustic.
Take this with a grain of salt but I gave away an ibanez and a first act, cheapo electrics, because they were pitiful, even though they were pretty.

Seagulls live 40 + years....so should our guitars

They are good little amps. Had mine around for 2 - 3 years, light weight and reliable. It's convenient to have it around. However, when I'm searching for a more complex, penetrating and broader sound the ol tube amp rolls out.

See, if you hadn't piqued my interest- and I hadn't ran across that Rat Rod, we wouldn't even be having this conversation- that Rat Rod has grabbed my attention by the throat- almost makes me wish I was going to get it today as opposed to the Penguin parlor body- I hope GC has one I can actually put my hands on-

I hate waiting, especially if it has anything to do with guitars.

You don't have to use a pick with an Electric guitar, I always finger pick mine.

They did have this though, which I held and looked at, but didn't play- it's apparently a step up from the Rat Rod- 100 dollar step, BTW

Thats a nice guitar, but may be a bit big for me, and the bigsby tremolo thing makes the guitar a bit heavy for me.
A Stratocaster type guitar is cheaper and more versatile another favourite of mine is the Telecaster a bit heavy not as comfortable to play as the Stratocaster but a very popular choice, I have both.
