I was just watching a few of the videos on you tube. The videos where a player offers advice on say finger picking and what fingers to use and thumb the how they do it or teach it. I've done it many times just to get some new ideas.
I did pick up a few things. Then I sat down and played to actually see what my right hand was doing to compare in a sense.
I never look at my right hand , ever and sometimes glance at my left , I'm a right hand player.
I was sort of surprised . It seems to depend on what type of style. I always use my thumb, and at least 2 fingers but I don't always allow the thumb to just stay on the low 3 strings I use it on the G as well. other times I use the thumb on the lower 3 and all three fingers each assigned classical guitar style yet that doesn't lend well with the type of music whether Blues , Country, Folk. It makes if difficult for me anyway to feel free.

After all these decades old habits live on. I tried to see if I could do it a few ways and I do , it's now just burned into my brain and I can change it , just don't feel the need , there is no right way unless you are a Classical Music guitar player. I imagine there are some who do break the rules.
Rules, don't we have enough rules to deal with by law , why would anyone open their guitar case and want to lift out a rule book instead of lifting out their guitar. Don't get me wrong , sure rules of the law are needed in most cases , not all. MOST, might be a winding the string to tight.
The reason for this post of mine is; I was inspired by the Guitar Playing Heroes topic and watched a few of those which took to you tube of course , I watched a few . Then I guess you tubes (suggestion) videos is always there, that panel on the right whatever it called. Don't care , no need to know.
