Derick , ancient1 , TonyKgull , blues90 , I swear, I have to stop perusin- I'm gonna need a 53 foot trailer to carry my Bucket List stuff- and years- one I can probably get- the other is a crap shoot-
I found this
www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/OMEChry--martin-ome-cherry-natural
open tuners! It's an A/E though- would still like to get my hands on one because- Cherry-
So, I went to Sweetwater which is where the ad came from- thought well, maybe GC has one I can play- called them- nope- on back order- but, the website says it's in stock!
The GC website also, now says, the 00017 I want is in stock- nope-
The Cherry comes w/a case as well-with blue interior (mine is green that appears blue if the light hits it just so)
From the umfg message board
Cherry lacks the clarity I seek in a Martin.
My favorite Martin in my stable is cherry with an Adi top. Just love it. Kind of somewhere between mahogany and rosewood.
Personally, I believe Cherry has tremendous potential as the North American sustainable wood of choice. If only Martin or someone would get behind it, put their best effort into it and promote it. Sweetwater stocked the OME when it first came out and I made a typical internet offer sight unseen but they didn’t accept. So, no dice. Personally., I’d like to see an America 1 level guitar (America 2?) with cherry back and sides plus the cherry neck already there on the 1. But alas, as is usually the case with Martin, they D/C’d it before it could get established.
On another note, one of the things I’ve learned here from luthiers is that Janka Hardness pretty much tells the story of the tone (reflectiveness) of the back wood. Cherry is 950 whereas Mahogany is 800 and Koa is 1270 so....it’s right there with the Big Boys.
