My guitar pickin' buddy in high school (early sixties), who had a Gibson J50, owned a Vespa when he was about 16, but about two years later he bought a Norton Atlas.  He let me ride the Vespa, but didn't trust me with the Norton.
We played at school assemblies and hootenannies in church basements and school gyms, (It was the era of The Great Folk Scare) but never earned anything other than a free meal.

Back to the Yamahas - Our house high strung is an FG75 from the early '70s.
  
My son Clay has an old Yamaha FG160 that his mom gave him.  That's his cat Minou (RIP)

My son Darcy has a Yamaha FG340 that was his first guitar.  I helped him pick it out.

Neither of them use these as their primary acoustic, but they learned a lot on them.

When I taught at Long & McQuade, I was always glad when a student came in with a Yamaha.  I knew they wouldn't be fighting with their guitar.
