It's interesting, the whole string preference topic. Especially when one considers the fact that there is really only about a half a dozen string manufacturers world wide, and even less manufacturers that provide the raw wire to all those string manufacturers (I think it's only 3 in total).
I think the main difference is just what kind of wire did they order and what did they do to either treat it or coat it if they treated or coated it with anything at all. But after that, the main difference in most strings is their packaging.
I've tried tons of strings over the years and the difference in all of them has always been quite subtle. Discernible yes, but still subtle. Especially when they're new and in that first week.
The only big difference for me was how they sounded after a good amount of time had gone by. A dead string is a dead string, no matter who makes it. That's how I landed on Elixers. It was the only string I could find that after such a long time, long after all the others had gone dead, the Elixers still sounded very much alive.
This will be different for different people of course cuz there's outside factors that have nothing to do with the string that can change this "time span." Acidity in one's hands/fingers being the most notorious difference. When it comes to acidity in the hands, different treatments and coatings will have different results, depending on the "type" of abuse or deterioration they are exposed to.
