If I remember correctly, that would have been around 1960 and the only song I can remember playing on our new record player was Running Bear. It was before my affair with the guitar, but I remember playing that record until it was too scratched up to sound like much.

That would be the year 1971 for me. So many favorites but the standout is "Brown Sugar", with "Maggie Mae" a close second. When I was riding the school bus one morning, the radio came on (thank you bus driver) and I thought I'd lose my mind upon hearing that opening Keith Richards lick.

Ladyssolo: I was a big-time Monkees fan already by 1971. Had a big crush on Davy!

I was a big fan of the Monkeys too, but not until later in the 70s. In 1971 I was only barely 3 years old and did not even know what a monkey was yet.

But seriously (if I can be) The song I remember around then was Bing Crosby singing "Now Is The Hour". I checked on Google and another one that I remember around that time was "Twelfth Street Rag"

That was in 1948

We have a winner! You're 1 year younger than my parents. I remember hearing 40's music on the oldies station in the 60's. That was a huge change in 20 years.

AH Bing.. my father sounded just like him..sang many of his songs.

I grew up watching Road movies, i got 7 on DVD. Tried to get my wife to watch them. She was bored ;(

Same here! To this day, if I don't hear some Bing, Johnny Mathis, Andy Williams, and Dean Martin at Christmas, it's like Christmas didn't happen.

Some great tunes on that 1973 list CTGull, but 1974 wasn't too shabby either, IMHO, when I look at what I have on my iPod.
