I thought the 800 series was my favorite.....

It worked with my friend. If you read my story in the "Are you a reborn guitarist" thread, or perhaps on the old AGM site, a few of my old friends & I started playing together again in 2010. Two of us play acoustic, and the third was playing along on electric with a small amp. He mainly plays lead guitar anyway. Over the next few years, I believe he began to want an acoustic. Up until last year, he had 4 or 5 electric guitars but no acoustic. So, he went looking for an acoustic. The third fellow plays a nice 12 string Taylor, as in my avatar pic, but you don't see the guitar that well - mainly you see my Maritime in that pic.
 Anyhow, the electric player was looking for the closest to electric in playability in an acoustic, wanted a quality acoustic, but didn't want to go all out for what he sees as a secondary instrument. Taylor's 100 series turned out to be that sweet spot for him.
Could be Taylor sees a pattern there......  

I think you may well be right, Greg Ballantyne.  One of the reasons my first acoustic (well, acoustic/electric) guitar was an Ovation was because of the neck, which felt much more like an electric guitar neck to me -- and up until then, all I'd ever played was electric guitar.

Now I prefer a wider neck -- like the 1.8" Seagulls.

Fair points RockyMtnGull, and I agree.  I may have spoke too soon now that I think of it.  Both Martin and Taylor offer some great guitars in the affordable range.  I guess I didn't think of Taylor at first because the 100 series aside, I was thinking of the GS Mini, Big Baby etc.  Kind of "different" guitars.  But again, didn't think it fully through.

Guess it just shows as well how the prices at Godin are starting to get up there.  Up until their last couple of price increases and QII withdrawal, I never seriously considered Martins or Taylors etc..  Now, I've had a Martin and I may just be buying my first Taylor.  How times change.
