What does the word "cover" mean these days? Simon & Garfunkel recorded Martin Carthy's arrangement of the traditional folk song Scarborough Fair. Since it's a folk song, can you really be "covering" it.

I'd describe that video as "a lovely version of Scarborough Fair".

The guitar picking stands out. Makes source of arrangement very identifiable.

Then by that definition, S&G covered Martin Carthy's version. Martin actually tabbed out the guitar licks for Paul. When Paul copyrighted the arrangement, it began a feud between him and Carthy. It went on for many years, but they made peace and eventually performed the song together.
