Recommend Me Some Strings and Such

CaliGull , there are many opinions out there about how different materials in the different guitar parts have a detectable effect on the sound. But then there are people who will argue that there are "tonewood" qualities apparent in the body material of an electric.
Most will agree that the saddle is most definitely in the vibration or sonic path on an acoustic guitar though. Fitting it correctly might take some sanding and measuring though. Bone saddles aren't expensive though.
If you're thinking about upgrading the guitar's looks, that's different..... tuners can change looks a little, and also help if achieving/maintaining accurate tuning is an issue. Pins can be looks upgrades too. New strings can look as well as sound good, but that don't last very long......

Would recommend for buying new pins (just for looks), taking a sample of your existing pins, to Guitar shop, you will get far more choice off the internet, but be careful, as there are different sizes. 😁

On my folk I play the most I have Dragonskins. It was very shimmery when I used EJ16s on it, which is one of my top string choices normally. I've been contemplating getting John Pearce Bluegrass strings for it, but I'm happy with the Dragonskins. Very mellow, could be louder though.

I have been thinking about trying brass bridge pins possibly. In my logic (which could be flawed) a denser material could possibly increase sustain. I'm not entirely convinced that Tusq is just a man made bone equivalent as they advertise. I can see grooves in the saddle for example just from tunings. I've been thinking fossilized walrus tusk or brass maybe a possibility for me.

I'm playing with the idea of modding up my least expensive folk which is an Excursion. I never hear this model mentioned but I was shipped it by accident when I ordered an Entourage Grand for Christmas for a kid I'm close to. The seller didn't want it back because it hung in his store for a long time so he refunded me and I only paid $100 for it.

My S6 Folk is coming home tomorrow. I passed it to a woodcrafter last week because I wanted a cross shaped sound port put in at the lower shoulder. The guy told me yesterday that he would need to add bracing to it in the area. I'm very skeptical of that so I told him to forget it. I'll find someone else to do it for me or just forget it.

CaliGull, if you like the Silk & Steel strings, I might suggest giving some Custom Lights of the Phosphor/Bronze type a try.  Brand is up to you.  I think you'd love them.  They are the warmer of the steel strings and the custom light gauge won't be too much of a shock to your fingers or the guitar.  Just my   but they are great strings to have on that guitar that you want set up for delicate playing.
