Got a gift from Martin today!

"Not cheap" is right -- a quick google puts a set of 'em at $40 (okay, $39.99).  Heck, that's like buying bass strings...    Considering that a single set of Ernie Ball Aluminum Bronze strings runs around $7.50 (and cheaper if you're buying multiple sets), will these titanium core string last over 5x times as long? I doubt it -- but I'll look forward to hearing your opinion on them!

I got the email from Martin also. Hopefully I get a set too!! I'll put them on my new OM-21!!!

CaliGull - What do you think about the Titanium strings??

I have played my Martin all of two times since putting the strings on as I have been too busy and preoccupied with other things.  But having said that, I have to say I really like the Titaniums a lot. Do they make my Martin sound better? Don't think so, as it already sounds amazing.  Are they worth $40? Maybe, perhaps to try once. Would I have tried them if I hadn't gotten them for free? Sure, I like trying out new strings. That's how I discovered Silk and Steels. But this particular string produces a tone that is a lot less harsh that PB or even the monels that I have used in recent months. Very mellow. Beyond that, I would choose this string again also because it has a comfort and flexibility that I haven't found before.  They are malleable and not really springy like strings that I'm used to. Stringing them on the guitar was so easy, and I always struggle somehow.  When you bend the string to thread it through the tuner, or when you press the string down on the fingerboard, there is a lot of flexibility and less resistance than I'm used to. Sorry, I haven't have time to make a video and it surely wouldn't do the strings justice.  Worth a look if you like experimenting.

I will report back if I am still liking them as much over the next couple of weeks.

Please keep in mind "mellow" is only my subjective perspective, as compared to specific strings I have used, and In relation to a certain specific 00 body Martin guitar that I own.

One of my main complaints about guitar review videos is too much talking. I thought about doing one but to do it properly I would have wanted to do a proper a/b comparison and I would have wanted to make sure that I had a very good recording. Since I could not create a video to my own standards, I opted not to. Besides, there are too many variables. So much about acoustic guitars is experiential.
