As the Cabin rapidly approaches its one year anniversary (and thanks again to FloridaGull and petermac for putting this gathering place together!), it's interesting to look at our members list and click on the "Group/Rank" header to sort them. We currently have 159 members in the Cabin, which is wonderful since we started from scratch, but...
Of those 159 members, relatively few are active. We have two Administrators and five Global Moderators as the volunteer staff; we have three "Gods" (500+ posts), three Senior Members (250 - 499 posts), four Full Members (100(??) - 249 posts), and six Junior Members (50 - 99(??) posts). [Somebody who knows can tell me when a New Member becomes a Full Member and I'll edit this!]
That's only 23 people. Everyone else is a "New Member" with 0 - 49 posts, though three of them are within easy shouting distance of the "Junior Member" category. Still, of the 136 New Members, only 15 are in double figures, and of the four pages of members on our list, the bottom third of page two and all of pages three and four are members with no posts at all.
To me, that indicates we're not doing the best job of encouraging new members to speak up and join the conversation. I know (as someone who tends to lurk in corners of crowded rooms where I don't know a lot of people) that it can be intimidating to join an ongoing conversation between strangers, but hey, we're generally a friendly bunch. So if you're one of those new members, don't be afraid to join in. Ask questions, tell us about yourself, start a new thread somewhere. Heck, in the General Discussion area, there's a "Show Us Your Guitars" topic -- give us some pictures of yours.
Talk to us! Hey, you can start right in this topic -- tell us how you found the Cabin and what brought you here.
And if anyone else has a good idea of how to better welcome new folk to the Cabin, let us know.
