Neck Reset Formula - Liutaio Mottola

For those crazy enough to try it!!!  Getting the numbers is the easy part.  Doing the work is not.  That's why I wrote an article on Yamaha FG neck resets.  For me to remember how to do it, and to help others to understand how I did it.

I think I've finished 4 bolt on and 5 glued dovetail.  There must be another 8 to go with maybe another one coming tomorrow.  That would be my first guitar bought this year!!!!  3 months in!!!

It's very time consuming.  With working 9-10 hours per day and a crazy family I don't have a lot of free time to do my projects.  It would take at least a month to do one.  And there's always a chance something going wrong.  If I screw up one of mine it's not a huge problem.  Screwing up someone else's guitar...  Maybe next year.

I made a couple of bone saddle for people in the last 3 weeks.  Made a little money.  I'm working on building fixtures to be able to make them faster.  I'll eventually be offering authentic copies of vintage Yamaha nuts & saddles on my forum and website.  I'm expecting to have some surgery next month that's going to set me back for a few months.

CRAP!!!  YOU'RE RIGHT!!  I bought the 1996 Seagull S6 CW Mahogany for $50 2 months ago!! Another rescue!!  STILL!!!  I've only spent $50 on guitars in 3 months!!

All the dovetail resets are vintage Yamaha's, 1969 to 1974.   OLD!!!

Unfortunately the surgery recovery can be a year.  I've had severe acid reflux, with a hiatal hernia, my whole life.  I've been taking drugs for 25 years.  The drugs only somewhat mask the symptoms and have long term side effects.  The damage to my esophagus continues.  If I don't do something soon it'll end up as cancer.  The surgery fixes the hernia and installs the LINX device, which is a bracelet of titanium magnets that hold the lower esophageal sphincter closed.  I'll have to relearn how to eat and swallow to live with this new device.  It will not be fun but it will fix the reflux and save my life.  I'm waiting for insurance appeal to go thru.

My last scope showed abnormal cells in my esophagus from the nearly constant damage from the acid for decades.  The next step is Barrett's esophagus.  Then esophageal cancer.  My wife's mother died from cancer less than 2 weeks ago.  I don't want to be next.  I'm 2.5 years younger than when my father died from lung cancer (smoker).  I figured I'd beat that easy, since I've never smoked.  Now I'm not so sure.  The risk of the surgery now is worth not dying from cancer in the near future.
