So, there's been a lot of posts about strings lately. This has made me -- once again -- aware that I keep forgetting to bring my workhorse home and change the strings. (My Alvarez AG70CEAR Grand Auditorium).
The strings have been on the guitar for over a year (last string change was before the big Gov't shut-down, so could be almost 2 years by now) and it's been played for an average of 2.5 hours almost every single week. It gets played pretty hard too cuz it's my main workhorse/stage guitar.
The strings still sound fantastic and they still even look very good. They're not showing the visual wear that they normally do after time. (Which as a side note, is another weird thing about them) No, the issue is, a few weeks ago, probably 3 or 4 weeks, I noticed that the G string has a very tiny "gap" in the winding. -- At least I think it's the G string, could be the D string, but either way.-- It's right down in the cowboy chord area that obviously gets the most abuse.
So I'm thinking, I've been playing this thing with one of the strings (that I've noticed, who knows, there could be more. lol ) having a gap in the winding. That's a good sign they're getting pretty darn worn out. But I keep forgetting about it cuz they still sound amazing. How long am I going to luck out here before the darn thing snaps on me? LOL.
I've been wanting an excuse to bring my Dread "to work" for a while, just for a bit of a change, but I just keep forgetting. Always kinda pressed for time, and when I get to practice I notice it, but by the time practice is over (usually about 1.5 to 2 hours later) I've forgotten about it again.
So ya, it's just got me wondering. How long am I going to luck out if I keep forgetting? Will those Elixers ever die? LOL. So far, they just keep soldiering on.
