Had a really good time last night. There were 4 of us and we rotated doing 3 songs each- I wound up doin 9 songs
The venue was crowded with a supper crowd, because of the good food my youngest grand daughter (turned 1 this past Thanksgiving) really enjoyed the mac and cheese and it was a bit hard to hear even with a great sound system. Prob'ly 50 people there.
My first set we had trouble with Mic feed back between the guitar mic and the voice mic. I only messed up 3 or 4 times, but recovered nicely- the mess-ups were due to not being able to look at my hands because the voice mic was in the way- I need to get used to singin into a mic- John said I sing soft, which surprised me because my voice carries- a lot- The other 3 player/singer writers were way more experienced than I- my last set, the organizer let me play his plugged in Martin - BTW, I used my Martin 00015M-one gentleman was playin a Seagull, that sounded great, and sounded a lot like a J45- and the other gentleman was playin an Epiphone Master Built Texan- it too sounded great and similar to a J45-
Yes, they were all Dreadnaughts the Seagull player, Dan Kocher (pronounced core) and the gentleman with the Epiphone, named Mike, who called himself Tone Deaf Mike, from Conroe, were writers as well- they write up beat blues and boogie-woogie tunes and were very enjoyable to listen to-
Dan and I and his wife hit it off pretty good and had a fairly lengthy conversation after all was said and done. John, the organizer offered to help me learn to play better- he said, one lesson in Travis pickin is all it would take- all 3 were surprised that come March I will end my 2nd year of this journey-
I passed out 1/2 dozen cards-
I was pleased with me self now, I have to start practicin.... more songs- I could prob'ly do 1 1/2 hours easily, but, I had to stop and think last night trying to remember, Just Because You Asked Me To-
guess, I better take a list with me next time. The organizer used an iPad- Dan had his wife texting him which song to do and Mike, like me, played off the top of his head-
My kids recorded what I did, but, there is too much ambient noise for posting to you tube-
My youngest son, said, Dad, you should have started doin this a long tome ago , he was impressed, which surprised me since he's not all that impressed with my you tube stuff- he said I'm a lot better live! All 4 of the adults in my built-in peanut gallery were very pleased and impressed with Pop! The grand kids behaved themselves, mostly - and my oldest grand daughter wrapped the organizer around her little finger-
I'm goin to do it again, next Friday evenin and every Friday I can- but, racin season starts next month- that will be the real test of how bad I want to do this - I'm goin to take me Red Rocket next, and likely get an LR Baggs Lyric for my non-A/E's-
