This mornin, a lady friend texted me, then called to ask if I could learn, Gene Watson's version of, Love In The Hot Afternoon wow! I was flattered. I didn't quite know what to think about that particular solicitation..... we've known each other for 50+ years... I know she likes what I do.... but... still....
I digress-
I told her I'd give it a shot...knowing full well no one, especially me, can sing like him.
Much older here but same beautiful voice >>>>> Gene Watson
Anyway, I found the lyrics and chords (and I actually remembered them from when it was popular, in the 70's)... so I thought, let me try the Lag T70A, (1), since I've not messed with it in a while... nice, but not exactly what I was wantin... so I tried me Black Lag T118-(2),.... it struck me how it resonated and the sustain it has... I played it about an hour and the resonance and sustain continued, playin songs I've been playin at open mic night
Yesterday I had played the Red Rocket, (3), which is a favorite personal taste guitar sound. It doesn't have an abundance of resonance, or sustain, but just right for me....
The past 1/2 hr or so I've been playin the Guild D240E (4), .... now, keep in mind the Guild is bigger and has a spruce top with laminate mahogany B and S- and I do use my thumb which I think gives a more accurate picture of somethin .... the Lag T118 has a Cedar top and laminate sides and back, AND a black paint job that would be envied on an automobile. But, it's resonance and sustain tops the other 3 by a long shot! Also, it's body is only 3 1/4 in deep!, with an arched back... I have Martin Monel 11-52's on it vs La Bella silk and steel 11-51's on the Guild and the Red Rocket... oh, the T70A has Martin Monel 12-54's.
I'm not particularly a fan of a lot of sustain. I think it can muddy the music. Resonance the same.
But wow! The difference in the 4 guitars is amazing and they are all sub 500 dollar guitars... made in China!, with laminate backs and sides. And it doesn't muddy the sound...
So, there you have it! 3 different brands and 3 different body styles. Dreadnaught, 1- concert body, 2, 000 size, 1-
I have spake! I may not be right, but, I'm never wrong....
