Keep in mind, I use me thumb for a pick-
Today, playin the Lag T118, I noticed a lot of black on me thumb... for quite sometime I've had, what seems to be a stain, on the thumb nail next to where I play... I do use it on an upstroke a lot.... especially when when I'm wantin more trashy sounds-
Anyway, 2 things. First, the stain? on the nail won't wash off. Occasionally I'll get black in the valley in me index finger callous... it doesn't wipe away or wash off either. I sand it with 80 grit sand paper 
Second, the strings were put on new, Feb 8 of this year....
The first issue, this is what I did: I sanded the nail with the file on the finger nail clippers, which only helped a smidgen- so, I have some really fine sand paper from my plastic model buildin days so I used it to polish the nail 
until almost all of the stain was gone... I've played for about 40 minutes on the Guild, just now and no sign of stain

Now, in all fairness, the La Bella strings on the Guild are a few days newer than the Martin Monels on the Lag.... but, they're also silver coated. (La Bella's)- the Monel strings are, well, Monel coated... 
but, I was surprised at the Monel strings rubbin off so quickly-
