Hmmm, how to word this:
I live in the southern part of the US in the greater Houston area, about 50 miles north of Houston.
Our weather is typically pretty mild in the winter, though we do get the occasional anomaly, like last year's sub-freezing temps for several days in a row.
I was born in Fort Worth, about 240 miles north of here. My raising was spread out to west Texas, 400+ miles west of Fort Worth and also in the Panhandle area of Texas. I spent the formative years, (6-12) in Lubbock, in the Panhandle area, west and north of Fort Worth.
Moved to west Texas, again, south of Lubbock, in 1960 a age 12. I call west Texas home, because it grew on me and I took on its persona of desert dweller, (love me some desert), though I do like the Plains topography of the Panhandle area that extends all the way to Canada, a couple thousand miles to the north. The weather can be harsh in both of those areas. Really hot and quite cold and windy, but mostly dry. I've been in sand storms you couldn't see across the street while livin in Lubbock... I got acquainted with freon A/C in doors when I was 13 , visiting a step sister and her family. Prior to that all we had was "water coolers" mounted in windows or on top of our dwelling places that use the natural (and induced) evaporative effect to cool in doors. Being plunged into the freon A/C indoors for the first time, gave me a cold... in the summer time, which I had never experienced.
So, weather fascinates me...
