after the fact. I posted this article (with a video) in the video thread about Hank Jr which sent me down a rabbit hole on you tube, but it was informative and got me to thinkin... please don't hurt yourselves readin it.
My point about "thinkin"... kids who grow up in the shadow of a successful person. It doesn't really matter what industry/arena either. We hear more about the celebrities.... duh, they're celebrities.
Dale Jr was the first to come to mind... I remember havin similar thoughts about him... his Daddy was/is a legend in racin... I'm more tuned into racin (and music) than a lot of people so I pay attention to thangs others may not, and I'm into psychological effect...
Fame... can you imagine havin to fill those shoes... whether Daddy steers you in that direction or not, you're expected to... (fruit doesn't fall far from the tree) that's a lot of pressure on a kid when he becomes cognizant of his status in life... one of the videos I posted of Hank Jr he said, in so many words, he made a conscious decision to not follow his Daddy's style... that takes guts. It paid off too!
Dale Jr was never the successful driver his Daddy was, but he did pretty good and is still very popular.... and successful in his own way. He chose his own path when he left his step-mothers inherited race team to drive for someone else... that took guts. It paid off too!
Of course there are a number of high profile, celebrity types, who become successful... but, what about the ones who aren't celebrity type high profile... I'd bet they out number the high profile people.
I worked for just such when I was employed and my youngest son has, and we witnessed, first hand, how hard the kids struggle to make it their own way... and what happens to them and the name they inherit... for the most part, the organizational forces in play helped them (the ones my son and I were employed by, [completely separate/different entities btw]) so the success they enjoyed was kind of built in...
But, think about Hank Jr, and to a lesser degree, Dale Jr... Hank Jr is a leader, natural born... Dale Jr too, to a lesser degree. They have/had an entourage who depended on them for their livelihood... them, 1 (ONE) person.... not an organizational entity. They had the courage to do their own thang... their name helped them for sure and opened doors others would have to knock down with a batterin ram, but, still,
they did it. Hank Jr is not Dale Jr... different as night and day as a person... Hank Jr (at least his public persona) is loud and boisterous and a bit over the top... but, he knows who and what he is...
Dale Jr (at least his public persona) is kind of quite, humble and just likeable, but he knows who and what he is...
So, the comparisons made me think...
What say y'all?
