I've been practicin standin up- at first I used leather strings at the head stock to attach the strap to the guitar, and I used leather strings for the rear attaching, using the hole/slot made in the leather ends for a button. At the back I used two (2) baby tie wraps (zip ties ) on the end pin. One to hold the other to make a loop to put the string through, since the groove for a strap is a bit narrow.
Then I found some head stock tie straps I liked, Levy Cork. Nice lookin and the colors went well with the straps I have. But, they are about 3/4 of an inch shorter than the soft plain brown head stock tie straps which makes them useless, IMO...
Anyway, blues90 and I were chatting, on the phone, and he explained to me how straps should be attached, either on the upper bout or the neck joint. Some guitars have a fixture already in place for a strap on the neck and the Tennessee Red has a button on the upper bout.
Last evenin I tried the neck joint button on the Guild and the Epiphone Dove... I didn't like it. The guitars are head stock end heavy when the straps are placed where the factory buttons are, and I had to hold that end up which perturbed me. I haven't tried the Tennessee Red with a strap yet...
I'll likely stick with the leather string attaching. It looks cool and is functional, albeit, somewhat permanent since a knot is required... that just means swappin straps between guitars would be time consumin...
Ideas?
