had a long conversation last evenin... very enjoyable. He and I are a bit alike in being anal about some things.
One of the things we talked about were guitars, of course, and the lack of QC in mass production in some of the instruments we've had and what we've done to correct the sloppiness...
One topic, which had nothing to do with QC, was fret board radius... it seems we prefer the 12 in radius and the 1 3/4 nut, (I can live with 1 11/16) even though he has much larger hands than I do...
The AMI J45 I have has a 16 in radius... everything else I have is 12 in and a fraction more at most.... the 16 in radius makes for a very flat fret board, and in the case of the AMI, quite fat/wide and harder to fret... add in the small fret wire and = hard to fret...
We also talked about scale length and how it effects playability through string tension... so many variables.
Not pattin me self on the back, but a little over 2 years ago I didn't even know strings came in different sizes (gauge)... blues90 is very knowledgeable on a number of subjects... especially guitars... and electronics (computers and such and amps and speakers)... me, I know electricity makes coffee, makes lights and can make you dead and its best to call somebody who knows what they're doin if it's electrical... I've had me fair share of electrical snafus in me life... they're funny in recollection, but scary at the time they happened...
I recall the D'Angelico I had that I couldn't do a 3 fingered A chord on and the discussion we had here at the time... blues90 brought up fret board radius might have been the issue... may be...
Anyway, we had a good time and I even made him laugh a couple of times... and I talked guitars and cars with a knowledgeable person... we had a good time!
