Martin "official" tone woods

blues90, TonyKgull, in a perfect world, where I was the creator, I would have my own PA system and mixer and learn how to make what I do sound the way I wanted it to sound... sadly, my world is not perfect, in that regard... I have to rely on others to present my sound the way they think/want it...

When I visited the music store last week, I talked, briefly, with the guitar tech about pups... I explained I like the LR Baggs Lyric (under the bridge) style... he allowed as how he didn't because of microphone feed back in a multi-instrument setting... IDK and it isn't a concern since I primarily play solo... but, with that said, I am strongly considering swapping the under the bridge system I have on AMY J, for the LR Baggs Element, which is under the saddle piezo... there's something not right with the under the bridge system I have... it seems inconsistent since John has to adjust the mixer every time I play with AMI J... but, again, I have to say... adjusted to what someone else is hearing/wanting comes into play...

Ya know, what's funny/ironic, one of the regulars at open mic beats the snot out of whatever guitar he brought, which could be one of several and John never has to mess with the mixer for him...

Also, many times, what I hear from me is less than satisfactory...also one man told me the Orangewood sounded bright to him, through the mixer and PA... but, setting on top of it, it doesn't sound bright to me....

 Very good description of sound.
 Sound is not easy to put into words.
Basically with sound you either  love it, hate it or somewhere in between. 
I think sound depends on the day, your mood and other things, I can like musically  anything from Classical to Heavy Metal.

I hear you, the price of guitars as gone through the roof, €2,000 €4,000 €10,000
and even more, but it doesn't have to be like that, if you study the guitar market, there are many great cheap Chinese guitars out their, Sigma, Tanglewood, and Alvarez to name but a few.
Now if you want to stick to the Gibson, Martin, and Taylor range of guitars, you need a very deep wallet.
The Chinese manufactured guitars, a few years ago, were quite poor quality, but they have got their act together now a produce some excellent quality guitars.
But you own some excellent guitars now.

In the Scotch & Soda video, I was playing a 1950 Gibson LG1.  It's a mahogany B&S with a ladder-braced top. These were maketed as entry level guitars, but I really like mine.  I bought it about 12 or 13 years ago I believe and paid $900 Cdn for it, the most I've paid for a guitar.
I really like it for finger-style blues and ragtime and for swing rhythm like I used on Scotch & Soda.
