Capo Knock Offs Part 1
Posted by Robert Williamson on March 21, 2016 at 3:02pm in Capo Users Group
You see them all over eBay and Amazon.. Kysers,Shubbs, Dunlops incredibly cheap!..
But on closer look you see they are just knock-offs. But are they any good?
Lets look at a couple, both were between 2-4$CDN
First up Scubb knock offs.
I doubt there is one person here who cannot tell which is the fake.
The fake uses poorly bent bar stock. It is unevenly radiused. The rivets are nails with an end hammered to keep them from falling out. The chrome plating is so thin it more like galvanized than electroplated
Next up the Dunlop Professional
This knock-off tries to one-up Dunlop by adding a longer strap and a bridge pin puller. The metal is a thinner gauge and the lever a softer plastic. The knobs that hook into the capo look like they will snap off easily.
Kyser Knock-Off Comment by Robert Williamson on April 29, 2016 at 10:46am
This arrived in the mail the other day.. I never ordered it. I did order a much different capo from the seller, but not this Kyser wanna-be.
But since it's here....
We have a example of a Chinese capo, based on the Kyser, with differences so they could patent it in China.
And of course these differences make the capo unusable.
The lack of a relief curve on end of the lever turns it into a weapon to potentially paralyze one's thumb, The spring is so stiff, and the angle of the bottom lever so acute in closed position; that I could not open it so that bottom pad was parallel to top.
I was not able to get this so-called capo on most of my guitars! ( I stopped trying after 4 thinnest necks.
Another to avoid.
I laughed more than a little when i read the blurb on the packaging.
