Hello everyone,
I'm new to the board and soon to be a first time Seagull owner! I'd been admiring Seagulls for awhile and played quite a few of them in my local Guitar Center stores. I've especially liked the Concert Hall models I've played as I've been wanting a smaller guitar for couch playing, travel, etc (my main guitar is a Taylor dred). Well, a few days ago, on my birthday of all days, I received an email from Guitar Center with their "Daily Pick": An Entourage Rustic Concert Hall A/E (w/Fishman Sonitone soundhole pickup) for $269 USD (regular price $449). I decided I couldn't pass it up so I jumped on it as it seemed a pretty good deal and after all, it was my birthday
Here's my question...On the Guitar Center and Musician's Friend sites, this guitar is described as having a Spruce top. I was a little hesitant at first because I would've preferred Cedar, but whatever, I've played both Cedar and Spruce Seagulls and I know I'm getting a fine sounding guitar for a great price. However, after doing a little more research, I am wondering if that is indeed correct. As far as I can tell, every single other Entourage Rustic series guitar has a Cedar top. In fact, the newer (I assume) version of this guitar, which has a cutaway and the QIT electronics, is listed on the Seagull website and elsewhere as having a Cedar top.
Everything I've read indicates that most of the Entourage series are essentially S6 guitars with burst finishes to cover up some visual imperfections (mineral stains) in the cedar, but are otherwise perfectly fine. I realize there are also some Spruce top Entourage models, such as the Burnt Umber guitars, but the Rustic models all seem to be Cedar -- with the exception of this one particular guitar.
We all know GC/MF, etc frequently get product details wrong, so is this a mistake? Or did Seagull really produce one Rustic model with a spruce top? I've emailed Seagull about this but haven't gotten a response yet.
Anyway, sorry for the long post. In researching this issue I came across this site and it seemed like the perfect place to ask. Thanks!!!
