I'm have built a list of cases that people have claimed to fit the Alvarez ABT-60 Baritone in various forums.
The first problem is that the measurements of the guitar do not agree with the specifications by Alvarez.
My Measurement Spec
Overall length 42 3/4" 1065mm (41 15/16")
body length 20 3/4" not listed
upper bout 12 1/4" not listed
waist 10" not listed
lower bout 17 1/4" 439mm (17 1/4")
max. depth 4 7/8" 122mm (4 13/16)
Notes: on overall length, I used a straight edge and 2 right angles to measure this.
I got 43 3/16" with end pin. 42 3/4" without
Manufacturer Case specs do not always state Overall length.
Some manufacture specs are clearly WRONG.
Interior Dimensions of Cases buyers claim fit the ABT60
Gator GW-Jumbo www.gatorcases.com/spec-sheet/16107-407/gw-jumbo
Overall Length: 44.5"
Body Length: 23.5
Body Depth: 5.5 "
Lower Bout Width: 17.25 "
Middle Bout Width: 11.25 " that's waist to you and me
Upper Bout Width: 13 "
SKB-20 www.skbcases.com/music/products/proddetail.php?f=&id=230...
Length: 43.75 in 111.13 cm
Body Depth: 5.63 in (14.29 cm)
Lower Bout: 17.25 in (43.82 cm)
Upper Bout: 12.50 in (31.75 cm)
Roadrunner RRMAJBO ABS Molded Jumbo Acoustic Guitar Case www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/road-runner-rrmajbo-abs-...
Note: specs on web site are wrong; here are the Corrected updated specifications as provided by Brittany Olson of Road Runner Cases
Interior length: 44.1 inch
Interior body length: 21.46 inch
Instrument body depth: 6.5 inch
Instrument lower bout: 17.13 inch
Instrument upper bout: 12.6 inch
Of Concern:
How the inside dimension was measured affects whether there is any tolerance in the fit. Is 17.25" the width of the interior lower bout with or without compressing the padding?
If padding is compressed during measurement..it will be too tight, on the other hand, if uncompressed we will have 1/2"-1" extra; a proper snug fit.
According to these confirmed dimensions the Alvarez will NOT fit in the RoadRunner case, despite claims otherwise.
Note:
The Alvarez JC1 Jumbo Acoustic Guitar Case was not designed to fit the ABT60. The fit depends on tolerances of the build and thickness of plush. If electric, the knobs can be damaged or damage the plush. Some lucky buyers have a good fit, others are unhappy with a plush sardine can.
Note: both the SKB and Gator case have a lower bout inside width of 17.25. I can see problems with fit due to tolerance skew as this is the width of the Alvarez.
Gator said:
will have this case re-measured so we can know if the foam padding is compressed at all in the measurements, and how much “give” it has available.
...
and we confirmed that the foam padding does have some “give” to it beyond the lower bout measurements. The lower bout will have enough room to fit your guitar.
I am confident that this should fit.
