We went to the yearly Taylor Road show last night. I had it in my calendar at 6:30pm so we got there a little before 6pm to get a good seat. At 6:30 I realized the start time is 7pm. But we got the couch and everyone else had to sit on the hard plastic folding chairs. It was an older crowd, average age probably late 50's.
It was the same 2 guys we've seen before. They went thru the usual stuff, the different body sizes, then the different woods. V class bracing of course. Almost had me convinced it actually makes a difference!! Of course he demoed the V class bracing on a $10,000 guitar!! And he demoed the T5Z. Then they gave out some free stuff. We got 2 sets of Elixirs, light & medium. I still have the mediums I won 3 years ago.
Then we got to play the 15-20 Taylor models they had. Normally this is where we leave. My wife liked the look and sound of the 712ce 12 fret (rosewood), and I like the 712ce 12 fret (blackwood). She doesn't play but she hooked up with a woman there who did and also liked that guitar. I tried that one, and an ebony version, and like the slightly brighter/less boomy blackwood version. I don't know if they sold any of them. There's no way we're going to drop the $3500 plus tax for the 712ce blackwood on the credit card. There's no freaking way my wife is spending $3000+ in a 712ce rosewood and not play!!! At least get a model I like!!
I'll have to check their online inventory more often. Maybe a trade.
Or I'll do the smart thing and stick with my old Yamaha's.
