On IRC (internet relay chat, old-school pre browser chatting) we sometimes paste videos at each as a comment on something said.
One person was taking about how depressed they were, so I pasted Neil Young's Don't Let it Bring you Down.. But as I myself watched the video I realized something I have never noticed. It was a live recording and Neil was retuning his guitar. I recognized he was doing Dropped-D on top a full step down! Probably my fav alt tuning!

Then I looked for chords charts for the tune. And many were all a mess, they were trying to come up with chords in Standard tuning.. Then I found this one with a standard chord at the top..pure hogwash! But as you scroll down, you notice the text:
Standard dropped down a tone and 1st and 6th strings dropped a further tone, CGCFAC.
I know some of those chords! I use them ..that means…( and this was a weird revelation to me )… I can PLAY THAT SONG. The 1st 3 I quickly re-imagined using forms I know at the 5 position so I could finger the melody. I spent 3 hrs. playing with this, completely oblivious to everything, including angry Skypes from wife for not answering her...
It has been a long time since I have had a learning session like that. But damn was it fun. Niel's D5 Cadd9 D5 F6sus2 breaks are a joy to slam out on Siggy.
I'm very proud of myself!!! I watched this video at 9:30pm last night and I didn't go down the rabbit hole of watching Neil Young video's or trying to play the song. Well, I did watch 1 or 2 more video's...
