Yamaha L5-A - Worth Repairing?

The challenge w/the bridge is the fact it's pulled some top wood with it.  If it needs a new bridge plate...  

I heard no buzzing.  It also has the original leather case - high quality.  If I sink $300-$400 into this, I'd be $600 into the guitar - but could I get an all-solid acoustic for $600 that could come close to the L5A?  Like I posted on another site, I have my doubts.  An L5A for $700.00 in good shape would be a good buy, for most, me thinks...

Anyone here own one??

You are right.  I will take it, "as is".  Worst case scenario, I put $400.00 into it, and for $600.00, have a guitar few have, few sound as good as, and one I can pass down to my "future generations"!  

Can't wait to get it and get it to my luthier.  I'll keep all here posted.  

Just my 2 cents, but unless I was into fixing them myself like CTGull, I wouldn't touch it.  To many unknowns.  Too much out of my control.

How did it come to be in that condition?  Severe neglect?     Defective build in the first place?  Who knows?

What kind of job is the luthier going to do?  How good is he?  Will the fix last?  Will it still sound as good?  Who knows?

I'd rather save my pennies and buy something I know is good, has a warranty and just take care of it.  Peace of mind is priceless in my book.

That's just "my" 2 cents.  But again, I know CTGull, would love to nab something like that cuz for him, fixing it is most likely more fun than playing it and therefore would be SO worth it!   

I find myself leaning in this direction - let someone else restore it.  The bridge plate is not completely thru the top, but the bridge lift has taken some wood off - not as bad as this below, but moving in this direction;

The bellying behind is similar the bellying on this old Martin, and the bridge lift is a smidge more severe;

I will say I know two luthiers who are top-notch.  I think this guitar was sitting in a humid environment, as the old strings have some rust on them.  The other thing - the action is not high.  The neck seems straight.  I didn't want to play it too much, but there was no buzzing - I tapped around the guitar where the braces would be, nothing sounded loose, but I haven't got inside w/a mirror, either. 

There's bellying behind the bridge, on the L-5A.  I don't have a photo, though.  If the bridge plate is in tact, and no bracing issues... I may get it and take it to my local luthier, as this repair is way above my "pay grade".  There was a smidge of separation starting where the neck meets the body, so that's my other concern.  I have my mirror and tools to take a closer look.  I'll keep you posted!  The reapri of the top wood that's come off due to the bridge lift is an obvious concern, as well.
