Hi folks - Circling around to check back in after several years away. I helped set up this board BITD and did all the graphics and stuff. I still love that shaded burst cutaway with the abalone rosette in the header. I had grabbed that image off the web somewhere and never knew the brand. Something makes me think it was actually a digital artist’s rendering rather than an actual guitar.
I still have my Cole Clark Angel 2, ‘94 Seagull S6 Spruce, ‘14 Seagull S12 and an Alvarez parlor. I also rotate between a Fender Player Strat and an Epi LP turned down low for couch noodling while watching TV. I could downsize to the Cole Clark and Strat and not really miss anything from say to day. I learned to play on the S6 so have a sentimental attachment to that.
About 18 months ago I added a Yamaha P-125 keyboard to the mix and it has been great fun! Music theory is way easier to understand on a linear keyboard than a guitar neck, although my (limited) guitar background certainly made learning the keyboard much easier. For those who are curious, I highly recommend taking the keyboard plunge. The Yamaha sounds great, has 88 weighted keys, onboard metronome, drum and bass tracks for play-along, and a bunch of voices to play around with. It was less than $900 all-in with stand, pedal and bench, from Sweetwater.
My guitar progress has slowed somewhat having nobody convenient to play with. I live in Vermont and have a summer cottage in the Maritimes, which we couldn’t get to this year due to the border closure. My summer neighbors are my jam buddies, and the coffeehouse we play at is low key, tolerant, encouraging and respectful. That’s tough to find elsewhere. I’ve been trying to ramp up my keyboard skills to where I could add that to the mix.
The good news is that this sh*tshow of a year is about over, the vaccine is on the doorstep, the god-awful US election has just about run it’s course, and live music should be back soon.
“Stay safe, live well and do good for others...”
