Strings on me Gretsch 2657

I thought Martin Monel were only acoustic strings. Sure they outer is nickel yet is a blend of nickel and copper alloy so they won't be magnetic enough for an electric. GHS the best one's are the nickle Rockers. the boomers are not as good. Both are nickel yet the rockers have the windings slightly flattened. They are round wound but easier on frets just much better strings.

 I use the same set yet 13 high E and 16 B had to buy them as a custom set . If I need another set I'll use the ones like above.

 I didn't read it till now. Boomers are fine. They just don't make the gauge I use and when I did use them in there largest gauge they always broke even the Nickle roller wound 13-58 did but it took more bending they sure sound good , the plain G 19 and the wound D seemed to be the ones that broke. They would break at the saddle pieces. It's the way the string goes though a slot in the strats saddle and that's a sharp edge then they go over the top of the saddle which is rounded. I would take them off and round that slots edge to take the sharp edge off , that helped yet they still broke.

 That photo is the first strat I built in the mid 80's It's not a kit I built it from scratch. Bought a plank of alder for the body I cut in half so the glue joint is in the center. The neck is rock hard maple and the finger board is from Brazilian Rosewood that was long enough and thick enough to get 4 boards out of it, I was given that rosewood in the 80's . They have bass guitar frets I bought the wire and cut the slots. I bought the tuners and trem and pick guard and jack plate and was given the pickups bought  the screws and string tree and knobs and the truss rod.  I have 2 others built 4 sold one. Was given a trace of a 59 strat made a template so I could rout the body cavities and the body round over and slot for the truss rod. the template was also used for the body shape cut out with a jig saw   . The rest was done with hand planes and a spoke shave and files and sandpaper and  a table top drill press for the tuners painted it with an air brush.

 I used to use electric strings on an acoustic, Haven't in a long time because the frets are nickle so if you do any bends on an acoustic they tend to wear out frets , bronze is not as hard yet the plain strings are basically all the same and tend to cause the most wear. They sounded fine to me just different less volume than PB or 80/20. I like as much volume I can get on an acoustic.
