Here's the problem with the fret board.  By "problem" I just mean the reality of what the fret board is doing and what it is, not that either is an actual problem.

The fret board is a fairly thick piece of wood, much thicker than any of the wood used on the sound board, back or sides of the acoustic.  It's also been stabilized by being glued to the neck.  Because of that thickness, it is pretty unlikely that it will ever crack due to whatever.  So, the only real maintenance it needs is cleaning.

The fret board is also always made of a very good hardwood like ebony, rosewood, maple, etc. (or, even harder man made materials)  This is because that wood has to "hold" the frets in via (basically) a press fit after they've been hammered in there.

What one doesn't want to do to a fret board is soften it up too much with  any  kind of oil.  This compromises the wood's ability to maintain that strong press fit hold on the frets.  The softening also compromises the wood's ability to endure the wear of playing.

The beauty of the "regular" fret board conditioners actually IS the fact that they dry out so fast.  This ensures that people who over oil it are not in too much danger cuz that conditioner will evaporate fairly quickly.

However, people who use too much regular oil, (of whatever kind or mixture) well, that could go sideways pretty easily.  That oil will not evaporate or dissipate quickly which will leave the wood softened for much longer.  I'm not even going to go into the various consequences of that, but it could go  very  bad over time.

Side note:  The luthier's comment about off-the-shelf fret board conditioners causing oxidization of frets because of the distillates etc is pure malarky. 

Unless your talking about some really, really low quality guitar that is using materials that shouldn't even be used for frets in the first place........frets don't oxidize.  They're made of nickel or stainless steel.  Nickel and stainless steel don't oxidize.  He's just spewing falsehoods to pedal his new product at that point.

If you end up with a guitar that has oxidized frets, it's because it is some very cheaply made guitar that is using very low quality -- garbage quality when it comes to fret material -- stainless steel that is not actually pure stainless steel and  that's  why it's rusting.  In Germany the name for true stainless steel translates exactly to "Rust Free" for a reason.  It's got nothing to do with the fret board conditioner.

So, all that to say, I'm with Derick on this one.  I'll stick to the very thoughtfully purposed formula of F-One type fret board conditioners.

Someone may prove me wrong, but under normal playing of the guitar, the natural oils in your skin is more than enough to keep the guitar fretboard in fine working condition for life, there are loads of guitar players that never condition there fretboard or bridges.
But after saying that I do use "F one" Fret board conditioner, sparingly, I use it more for making the fretboard look nice and to make the wood really show its markings.

Do not get me wrong, I don't know how good or bad this conditioning balm is, I've never heard of it or read any unbiased reviews.
But over the years I've heard of people using a list of things that they are convinced is good for their fretboard and bridge, I'm not convinced it ranges from, real lemon oil, 3 in 1 oil, used engine oil, Baby oil, skin care oil, women's make up removal to name but a few.
I really value my guitar fretboard and bridge, so I'm very careful what I use, as once you put an oil type product on your fretboard it is very hard to totally remove if you don't like it, and unfortunately if you put a product on that's not good for your fretboard it may take a good while before you find out.
But as i said, don't let me put you off using it, it may become the best product to date.

Just a point on stainless steels.
Stainless steel is a generic general classification, their are many many recipes of stainless steel.
But I'm sure we all know this.

What are frets made of?
Though fretwire is frequently called "nickel silver," it doesn't actually contain silver. Rather, it's typically composed of 18 percent nickel, 80 percent copper, and small amounts of such other materials as zinc, lead, and cadmium. Really good fret wire has more zinc and less copper. One of my favorite brands is Jescar, and their NS formula is 62 percent copper, 18 percent nickel, and 20 percent zinc. Because it's harder than traditional fretwire, it lasts longer.

Another option is stainless steel. Stainless steel is very difficult to work with, but it lasts dramatically longer than traditional fretwire. However, stainless steel frets come with a hefty price tag. Most luthiers will charge more than double to re-fret a guitar with stainless steel because it nearly destroys their tools and the job takes much longer to do. In the long run, it could be the perfect solution for your guitar since you may never have to replace the frets again!
