Didn’t find Garrison in the Guitars by Brand section, and it is no longer made.
But turning to the Cabin because of the Canadian knowledge herein…
And, today I’m going to look at one that’s about 20 years old.
So, I need a crash course on them.
Here’s what (I think) I know.
They were a Canadian make. Started by a guy named Griffith, or Griffiths. The innovation was a composite “airplane” one-piece frame, which included bracing, bridge, purfling, and trim - so the top, back, and sides were sort of inserted into this frame.
I played one, a 12 string for maybe 30 minutes in 2009. Wasn’t prepared to purchased, was just looking, but it was a good guitar.
They made 2 lines - the more expensive G-## guitars had a one piece frame that included the back and side frame and bracing elements, and these were made in Canada. The lower cost AG-### models had laminate back and sides, and the one piece frame was only for the top - back & sides were conventional frame & brace. These mnodxels were made in China.
Gibson bought the company in ~2007(?) and promptly closed it. To stilffle competition and innovation? seems a dubious scenario. Maybe because the economy went bad after the real estate bubble burst? Maybe they bought Garrison to capture the Chinese manufacturing capacity? Maybe they just wanted the frame patents? It’s a bit of a mystery.
What would I like to know:
Models and Prices back then (approx value now).
Neck profile and nut width
Experience with repairs over the years
…really anything else anyone knows.
