NGD was unexpected and has a long story. I was looking for a used Art and Lutherie Ami to replace a spruce top model I regretfully sold a year ago.
After unsuccessfully finding a decent condition and reasonable price used one, I bought a brand new cedar top “bourbon burst” brown last month.
It did not come with a bag. Off I go to Craigslist to search for one. Found a posting for a Denver 3/4 Simon Patrick parlor with bag, tuner and stand for $150 (Canadian). Denver… but the photo sure looks like an Ami. This sounds could be a scam. But it was not. The nice guy even delivered it to me. It looks like someone bought it, played it a few times, and left it untouched for years. He said his wife tried but gave up.
This one is a Simon & Patrick Natural Parlor with laminated cherry top. Although it is laminated, the sound is nice. Nicer with more sustain and less tinniness than an old 1998 cherry model I had. Not as nice as the cedar but just different enough to keep these two.
I did a basic setup of truss rod, fret polish, lowered saddle, and complete wipe down. Martin silk and steel 11-47 strings replaced the aged phosphor bronze 12-53 strings.
It plays very nicely. The more rugged laminate top gives me less worry than the soft cedar.
