Maybe this topic will generate some noise (interest) from other posters- or not.
The thread about tone differences got me to thinking- like I needed help with that
The Guild DS240 has a glossy finish. The D240E has satin. When describing a finish like the DS has, say my White Pro Dove as an example as well, I say they have a paint job a custom car would envy...
I prefer satin and have, for quite some time, even on cars -
I allowed (or lamented) how the DS is noticeably heavier than the D240E and I suspect some of that weight difference is the finish since gloss is heavier than satin- the Pro Dove is a tank, comparatively speaking, and I suspect the paint job has a lot to do with that. J is also heavy, comparatively speaking-
The Martin 00015M is a feather weight compared to anything I have-
I remember, years ago, reading about how NASCAR, and NHRA cars were looking at paint type for saving weight- at that time they were of the glossy style- of course today they both use mostly a wrap vs paint because less time is spent placing decals with a wrap and decals, if not properly applied can get blown off fairly easily-
I digress- guitar finishes: I prefer satin- thus, I am leaning, heavily, toward a Martin all hog dreadnaught as my next guitar-
Then, there is the less expensive Guild, D120, which is also satin looking, but listed in the Guild specs as gloss, polyurethane- but the picture looks satin- and is also spec'd as solid wood- and is only 700 bucks with no discount figured, but, knowing discounts are common-
anyway- what do y'all prefer?
