I brought this up a bit back. I've been texting the land lady because I can't deal with talking to her. Then she said we need to talk so fine I call.

This stove has been here way before we moved in and she said she would suck it up and get us a new one because of the mouse then today the fellow who is doing work wasted to see it so I showed him . Hours later he calls me back and says the owner has one in her garage I should look at , what a pile.

I told the handy man I would rather keep the one we have than have her old newer than our stove.

You don't tell someone you get a new one then offer some used POS.

We have lived in this place since 1981 the moved up here in 93 , all those years of rent and a stove was offered and she's to cheap.

Man as I said before if I could swing it we would be out of this state in a NY minute.

Funny, just about a year and change ago, I had a similar thing happen. Our stove still "technically" worked, but the thermostat failed so it had two settings: off, and full blast. LOL.

I asked the landlord if they could replace the thermostat, and she said, "Na, we'll get you a new one, that thing's gotta be over 20 years old right?'

What actually happened is the handy man of the building said they had a stove that was an older model (just like mine but new, but older than what they normally provide) and it had never been used. It had been acquired for a new tenant but they were going to be a month late moving in. He said if you want this one, I can have it to you today instead of waiting weeks for the new one.

I said, "Sure!" Point being, any building worth their salt is going to replace it with a good one cuz I think there's laws that require them to. When it comes to the basics like heat, fridge, stove and bathroom stuff, I don't think they're even allowed to cheap out. Not like what you describe anyways.

Might be something to look into. I know California has lots of socialist type laws and you maybe, might be able to end up quoting something like that to let them know they have no choice in the matter. Get a bloody proper stove in there with warranty.

We have something here called "the Landlord Tenant Board of Ontario." One quick call to them and they answer any questions we have. It's gov't run and it's free. And if landlords do anything to cross the line or avoid their responsibilities under the law, these guys will let you know and let you know what you can do about it as well.

Do you have anything like that there?

It's an apartment building 10 units. We have lived here since 1981. Here how ever most landloads belong to some group of their own an association. Years ago they all decided if it's not part of the building even if it was here when we moved in meaning appliances and it breaks they don't have to do any thing. Few years back the fridge quite I had to pay $250 to get it repaired.

The mere fact we have paid rent here since 81 ,well she has made plenty off us. She sent some guy to put a sticky mouse trap in the broiler , who knows if that will work.

Basically I told her forget the stove but if the mouse still is an issue replace it with a new one not some used crap.

All she has done in this apt since we moved up stairs in 92 from the one we had from 81 is tear up the shower only because the user lady who lived down stairs claimed it was leaking and turns out it was the pipe. That was 12/15 years ago. Then fix a leaking water pipe in our kitchen ceiling then have the large hole patched and paint it and replace the toilet which I helped because he came by himself. And fix the cheap forced air heater . All none of my fault. The water leak ruined things we had in the cabinets and it took 25 hours to get someone out here.

I fix stuck windows and doors and any thing else that needs it simply because it comes out better than her handy mans work and I don't need to clean up their mess.
